2011 Randwick City Stakes Won By Saint Encosta

March 16th, 2011

The 2011 Randwick City Stakes has been won in fine fashion by John Thompson’s Saint Encosta.

Saint Encosta won the 2011 Randwick City Stakes by 1.3 lengths and smashed the decade-old course record by an unprecedented one and a half seconds.

The Group 3 Randwick City Stakes, one of the most exciting races on Sydney’s horse racing calender, was worth a cool $125,000 and was run over 2,120 metres.

Saint Encosta sat at $8 in the betting at Luxbet, while Lorne Dancer, who failed to finish in the placings, began as $3 favourite.

The field sat all bunched together as they rounded to home turn, until Saint Encosta broke free from the pack and put in a brilliant run down the inside to finish first ahead of Alexander of Hales (2nd) and Scottish Border (3rd).

This was only Saint Encosta’s second win from 18 career starts.
