Randwick City Stakes

Kicking off the racing at the Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday will be the Group 3 Randwick City Stakes (2000m).

Starting at just before 1pm in Sydney, the race will begin the proceedings for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival’s Randwick Guineas Day, and will see nine elite horses start.

All entrants are at least three years old, and will compete over the 2,000 metres under handicap conditions, and the first to cross the line will take away $75,000.

Drawing the coveted inside barrier for the Randwick City Stakes is the Michael Moroney-trained Viking Hero. While the colt has not necessarily performed to the best of his ability this year, Saturday’s staying event could prove his niche, and the inside barrier would help his campaign.

Spinney, trained by Peter Snowden, drew the second barrier and will be one to watch.

Starting out wide for the Group 3 race is I’ve Got Talent. Trained by Guy Walter, the gelding has not competed in any Group status races this year, and could use the Randwick City Stakes as a good building block to work his way into the 2010 season.

Sydney trainer Chris Waller has certain dominance over the remainder of the field training four starters, with The Embassy his most likely contender for the Randwick City Stakes.

Spinney, trained by Peter Snowden, drew the second barrier and will be one to watch. The gelding recently won an 1,800 metre handicap at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, proving his strength in a similar structured race.

Also taking place on Saturday at the Royal Randwick Racecourse will be the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m), the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), the Group 3 Skyline Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m).
